 Executive Board Members &  Advisory Board Members


Cynthia Gaines is the CEO/Executive Director/Program Coordinator of Seekers of Knowledge, Inc. (“SOK”). She serves as the Executive Director of the SOK Board of Directors. Currently unemployed, Cynthia devotes the majority of her time running the day-to-day operations of the organization.  Her duties include, but are not limited to: creating yearly budget and brochures, website design,  networking and establishing collaborative efforts amongst community organizations, coordinating all of Seekers of Knowledge events and activities, writing grant proposals, and making the daily management decisions entrusted by the Board of Directors.


Virginia Beal serves as President of the SOK Board of Directors. She is currently employed by Greater Four Corners Action Coalition, a nonprofit neighborhood organization, as the Administrative Director responsible for the supervision of all administrative staff. Virginia attends monthly (SOK) board meetings, where the members strategize and plan fundraising events for the program. In addition to the meetings she works closely with the Executive Director, helps out with and attends the fundraising events and performances, etc.


 

Vivian Rashad was born in North Carolina .  She began her work with at-risk in youth during the Scared Straight error out of Rahway State Prison. Her work continued in California with neurological disorders such as Autism, ADD, ADHD, conduct disorders and etc, and exists informally today.  Vivian has managed to obtain a B.A. in Behavior Science and a Master’s in Psychology.   

As a Director, on the board of the Seeker of Knowledge organization, her role is to provide valuable input in issues such as planning and or organization of events. To assist in the handling of differences within the organization which may or may not effect changes or paradigms within. Vivian is a wife, mother, and grandmother. She is an author of a manuscript entitled, “BI” Behavioral Interventions, Who Said, Special Ed.” published in 2009. Vivian’s strong faith allows dedicating her time to the youth in the community, participating in tutorial services,  planning activities, and continuing research. Vivian strives for all children to be successful in and outside of the classroom environment.


Kenya Beal is a full time mother and a parent of a Seeker of Knowledge member. She serves as Treasurer  and  Clerk   for Seekers of Knowledge . In such roles,  Kenya  attaends monthly SOK board meeting , records all the minutes for the meeting as well as other clerical duties , collects and keeps track of all monies regarding Seekers of Knowledge, collects fees from parents, along with sending out reminders regarding fees and volunteers when ever needed.


Fundraising Coordinator

 

Carlotta King is an Accounts Receivable Representative at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary since March 2001. Carlotta serves as the Fundrasing  Coordinator  for Seekers of Knowledge, where she primarily helps to raise funds and bring awareness about the organization to others.She is very active in fundraising and charity work. Carlotta has a daughter in the program and has been a member of the Seeker family for  over 5 years.


Operations Coordinator

 

Charmaine L. Arthur-Neverson, Program Manager, One Step Closer, M.D.O.C.  Charmaine is the program manager of the mentorship program developed by the Multicultural Dropout Outreach Collaborative, in partnership with the Boston Private Industry Council.  The program is a culturally sensitive out of school time mentorship program that supports proven at risk students by helping them to return to school, create strategies for college and employment and form positive relationships with adults.   Charmaine has been in the field of out of school time and youth development for over 17 years.  She has dedicated her career to the success and development of urban youth.    Prior to Freedom House, Ms. Arthur-Neverson was the Senior Program.  Manager at the YMCA of Greater Boston in Dorchester. Her role with Seekers of Knowledge is Operations Manager. Ladies 1st Girls program.  Charmaine has provided technical assistance to the out of school time and youth programs in Cambridge and Boston on program design, curriculum design and development and diversity/multicultural training.She attended Lasell College where she majored in Sociology.  She currently resides in Dorchester with her family.


                      Advisory Board Members


Dawnesha Batts ,A Seeker mom to the fullest. My daughter has been with the program for 3.5 years. I have been helping Seekers for about 3 years and currently serve on the advisory board. I have my bachelors in Business Administration, concentration Accounting and am currently seeking my Masters in Leadership, concentration Human Resource Management from Northeastern University. Seekers is a great organization and I am happy that me and my daughter are a part of it.


 

 

Lakenya Johnson, Founder of F.A.M.I.L.Y Movement and the parent of SOK member: Dakeyla Johnson has been a member of the Seeker Family for over 4 years . Lakenya sits on the advisory board for Seekers of Knowledge to help the growth of our young ladies and prevent them from some of the  daily struggles within our community.
 

 

 Reneca Beldo-Logan,  recived her  Master’s degree in Organizational Management and Leadership.  Her main focus is to work with various organizations to help uplift and strengthen our community’s youth through various activities.   She  currently work at the South End head Start as an Education Supervisor of the Education staff. She  has held this position for almost two years and absolutely enjoy working with the teaching staff.  She is very pleased and excited to join the  SOK  family as a volunteer and Advisory Board Member, and hope to help bring new and exciting ideas to the SOK organization.
